It's official: The songs.de app is now available in the app stores for IOS and ANDROID!

Fair streaming for artists and labels – now on iOS and Android

Hamburg, April 14, 2025 – After months of development, intensive testing and seven deployment attempts, a major milestone has been reached:
The songs.de app is now officially live in the Apple App Store too.At 11:48 a.m., we received the long-awaited message:
“Ready for Sale – Apple, Apr 14, 2025 at 11:48 a.m.”

This marks a new chapter for songs.de and for all artists, labels and music lovers who believe in fair compensation and creative independence.

Why registration and top-ups only work via browser

The songs.de app is intentionally read-only. Users can stream music and videos via the app, but they must register and top up their credit using a web browser at www.songs.de.

The reason:
To avoid Apple’s 30% commission on in-app purchases. If we allowed in-app registration or top-ups, artists would earn significantly less for each stream – and that contradicts our mission of fairness.

This structure also applies to our Android version in the Google Play Store, which has been live since early March 2025.

A response to the crisis in streaming

An official study commissioned by Germany’s Federal Government confirms:

  • Streaming payouts are too low to live on
  • Revenue distribution is opaque and excludes many artists
  • Algorithms control visibility and limit musical diversity
