German Rock e.V. – “Radiozeit” Interview with Jens Reese
On 31 March 2025, Kurt Mitzkatis from German Rock e.V. spoke in his programme ‘Radiozeit’ with Jens Reese, the founder of the music platform songs.de. The interview was broadcast on Rockradio on 4 April 2025 and is available to listen to online.
In this insightful half-hour conversation, Jens Reese discusses one of the music industry’s biggest issues: fair compensation for musicians in the streaming age. He explains why the current payment systems of many mainstream platforms are often unsustainable for artists – and how songs.de is building a truly alternative model.
Unlike traditional platforms where artists often receive only a fraction of the revenue per stream, songs.de allows musicians to set their own price per stream – for example €0.05, €0.09 or more.
The platform focuses on transparency, direct fan engagement and fair conditions, without subscriptions or manipulative algorithms. Artists retain full control over their content, earnings, and creative freedom.
Jens Reese also shares the story behind the creation of songs.de, the challenges of building an independent streaming marketplace, and how the music community is responding.
The interview also features new music from artists already using or supporting the platform.
This is a must-listen for anyone interested in a fairer future for music – whether you’re a musician, producer or music lover.
